Douglas Zahn was a Professor of Statistics at Florida State University from 1969 until his retirement in 2005. In addition to publishing his methodological and applied
research, he recognized early in his career the importance of non-technical skills for statisticians and the value of video-based coaching methods. He shared his knowledge in the book "The Human Side of Statistical Consulting," in journal publications and conference presentations, and through mentoring numerous statisticians. His lifetime of learning and practicing non-technical skills is summarized in his 2019 book "Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones." Dr. Zahn was the inaugural winner of both the ASA WJ Dixon Award for Excellence in Statistical Consulting (in 2009) and the ASA Mentoring Award (in 2016). This panel session will discuss Zahn's ongoing influence on how statisticians can become better consultants, collaborators, leaders, teachers, and mentors.
