Greg Campbell's Bayesian Initiative and Innovations in Diagnostic Device Evaluation

Gregory Campbell was an outstanding leader, communicator, and innovator in biostatistical methods for evaluating medical devices and other medical products. Greg started many successful organizations and initiatives, including the annual AdvaMed / FDA Medical Device Statistics Workshop, the ASA Section on Medical Devices and Diagnostics, and the Bayesian statistics and adaptive design initiatives for medical devices. In this talk, I will recount how Greg developed the Bayesian medical device initiative and highlight Greg's innovations in diagnostic test evaluation, including the "intention-to-diagnose" principle, promotion of ROC analysis, and his novel bootstrap method for evaluating multi-reader, multi-case studies of diagnostic imaging devices.
