Genetics and genomics opened a new era in science. With advancing technology in recent years, we have accessed much more data than we could imagine. Statisticians and data scientists have played a very important role from the beginning to make sense of those data, yet more statistical expertise is needed. In this panel, we will discuss the scientific evolution of statistical genetics and genomics, overview of what has been achieved and what is yet to achieve, statisticians' involvement in the field, and current medical applications with highly reputable statistical geneticists from academia, government, and industry.
