Arguably Lucien Le Cam's most important contributions were in asymptotic analysis in decision theory. One of the earliest of these was local asymptotic normality which grew out of a 1956 3rd Berkeley Symposium paper which itself was in part an explanation and extension of a 1943 TAMS paper of A. Wald. I will discuss these connections, give some proofs and further connections to some modern results including semiparametric approaches in causality theory.
