Many universities have recently added an introductory data science course to their programs. The purpose for having an introductory data science course varies from one university to the next. An introductory data science course may serve as a first course for a data science major, this course may serve as an upper-level elective for a statistics major, or this course may serve as an general education type course for all students across the university. The session will contrast the common types of introductory data science courses that exist. The speakers in this session will speak on topics to include: the rationale for the development of their course, prerequisites for their course, learning outcomes for their course, and the progression of topics covered in their course. The presentations and resulting discussions in this session will help audience members understand why so many different versions of the introductory data science course exist across universities.
