There has been growing interest among (bio)statisticians in applying for grants as Principal Investigators (PIs). However, most (bio)statisticians are not trained to lead research as a PI. Applying for an NIH grant requires more than just formulating research questions and honing writing skills. In this roundtable discussion, I will share the experiences and lessons I learned from successfully applying for a K99/R00 from NIMH. Additionally, I will highlight common patterns I've observed through discussions with (bio)statisticians applying for their first NIH grant. This session is intended for students, postdocs, and early career researchers interested in pursuing NIH grants as PIs.
