The ggvfields R package extends the functionality of ggplot2 by enabling more intuitive and effective visualizations of 2D vector fields. It introduces several new geoms that serve as a 2D analogue to geom_function and geom_smooth, simplifying the representation of vector fields, stream plots, gradient fields, and smoothed vector fields. By integrating statistically sound smoothing techniques and principled data visualization methods, these enhancements reduce the need for cumbersome manual adjustments and streamline traditional approaches to vector field visualization. These improvements offer a principled and accessible approach to vector field visualization within the ggplot2 ecosystem.
