Updates on Disclosure Avoidance at the U.S. Census Bureau

The U.S. Department of Commerce recently issued a policy governing how statistical disclosure limitation (also known as "disclosure avoidance") methods may be applied to the statistical products produced by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Specifically, this policy prohibits the two agencies from using disclosure avoidance methods that introduce statistical noise into the published data. Join Commerce Department and Census Bureau leadership for a roundtable discussion about the reasons for the new policy and how it is being implemented at the Census Bureau. Selected topics to be addressed include: which disclosure avoidance methods are impacted by the policy; how the policy may affect popular statistical products like the American Community Survey, the principle federal economic indicators, and the Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics program; and what the implementation plan will be for developing an effective disclosure avoidance solution for the 2030 Census. The session will conclude with an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the panelists.
