Professional Development Computer Technology Workshop (CTW)
(Bio)statisticians and data scientists receive little practical training in producing effective data visualizations. This is unfortunate, as data visualization is one of the most powerful approaches for quantitative scientists to communicate the story hidden among the data to non-scientists. Building compelling and visually appealing graphs can be extremely time-consuming, often requiring specialized programming knowledge. These difficulties can prevent or even dissuade users from leading discussions using visualizations, often leaving graphical tasks to final reports or foregoing plots altogether.
The goal of this workshop is to describe visualization methodologies to aid in the interpretation and communication of data from applications in clinical trials and other life science topics. We utilize JMP Graph Builder to interactively build data visualizations and discuss the importance of graphical features in how they communicate statistical information. We describe how the produced visualizations can be operationalized for future use for other applications.
