Internships for the Future

Tue, 10/2: 1:00 PM  - 3:30 PM
IKE Sessions
New Orleans Convention Center
Room: Room 339
Over the past 20 years, the City of San Luis Obispo's internship program has provided a state-wide benefit by helping train the next generation of experienced water professionals. More than 100 individuals have completed the program. The operator-intern relationship is mutually beneficial in that it promotes a culture of learning. While not all interns who complete the program go on to work at treatment facilities, the knowledge they gain through the program provides them with a unique perspective in their chosen career.

Our IKE will include interviews with current and former interns that describe their experiences, how the program effected their lives, and show job placement. The purpose is to demonstrate how our internship program has positively impacted communities across the state. The goal is to inspire other facilities to create their own programs.
